Comprising members of regional government, customers, academia and advocacy groups, the Regional Energy Resource Council (RERC) provides guidance on how TVA manages its energy resources against competing objectives and values.
TVA operates the nation's largest public power system and provides reliable and affordable electricity for business customers and local power distributors serving 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states. A key challenge faced by TVA is managing energy resource priorities among competing objectives and values. These include building and operating diversely fueled power plants and balancing those needs with reducing energy consumption, using energy efficiency measures, and tackling transmission, integration and growth issues.
The council was first convened in Fall of 2013, and its charter was renewed for a fourth term in February of 2018. TVA established the Regional Energy Resource Council to obtain advice from external stakeholders who are interested in the development and management of energy resources in the Tennessee Valley. Gaining routine input from stakeholders helps TVA manage its priorities in a responsible way to meet the diverse needs of people across the Valley and thereby sustain the vitality of the region.
The meetings of the council, which was established under the guidelines of the Federal Advisory Committee Act, are open to the public, and the proceedings are published on this website.
The TVA Regional Energy Resource Council will host a virtual meeting from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. EDT. Members of the public are invited to observe the meeting. Preregistration is required to join the online meeting. Please register in advance at http://bit.ly/RERC-May. Public comments will be accepted that morning for 30 minutes at 9:30 a.m., EDT. In order to make oral comments, the public must pre-register by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 17, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. The members of the council represent public and private stakeholders who are involved with and interested in the development and management of energy resources in the Tennessee Valley region. Members are nominated by the governors of the seven states in the TVA power service area, the distributors of TVA power, TVA’s directly served customers and other stakeholders. Meet the council members here.
