System Operations Center
Every healthy body needs a strong heart, and the heart of the Energy System of the Future will be our new Systems Operation Center (SOC).
The new SOC will employ smart technologies to manage power grid operations more reliably and efficiently. The center’s energy management system will provide more flexibility by integrating and monitoring distributed energy resources (small-scale resources that connect to the power grid at individual locations) and demand response (which enables customers to shift electricity usage to non-peak hours in return for incentives).
The SOC also will feature robust security systems to ensure our assets are protected from everything from cyberattack to an electromagnetic pulse.
Expected to open in Fall 2024, the SOC will be critical to TVA’s mission to improve life in the Valley. It will help us continue to deliver 99.999% reliability, build resiliency, provide low-cost electricity and attract companies that want to build in an area committed to clean energy.
Energy Management System
- Utilities are moving their operations centers away from urban areas to rural locations for additional safety and security. The System Operations Center will house TVA’s new energy management system. This system works with smart technologies to help lower costs and increase reliability.
