Incorporated in 1939, the City of Athens Electric Department provides electric, gas, water and wastewater services to the East Tennessee cities of Athens, Englewood and Niota, as well as to surrounding rural areas. Incorporated in 1939, it serves upwards of 13,000 business and residential customers and manages over 500 miles of transmission line.
