Mountain Electric Cooperative

Mountain Electric Cooperative serves Johnson, Unicoi and Carter counties in Tennessee, and Avery, Burke, McDowell and Watauga counties in North Carolina. Incorporated in 1941, the company today has over 33,500 business and residential electric customers and maintains more than 2,250 miles of transmission line. MEC partners with TVA to offer its customers energy efficiency programs such as EnergyRight Solutions and Residential Services. and to actively participate in economic development for its service territory.
