FEBRUARY 11, 2019 — Last summer, TVA, in partnership with Nashville Mayor David Briley’s office and Nashville Electric Service, launched the Home Energy Uplift (HEU) pilot program aimed at providing whole-home energy improvements to low-income families in the Nashville area. Qualified homeowners received energy retrofits and tools to help their homes become more energy efficient and ultimately lower their utility costs while improving their comfort levels and quality of life.

In January, Beverly Truett of North Nashville became the 100th homeowner to receive energy upgrades through the program. Energy efficient improvements to her home included air sealing, a ventilation fan, attic insulation, mini-split heat pumps, water heater insulation wrap and carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
“Since they completed the work, my bill has gone down about $100 per month,” Truett said. “I can’t thank everyone enough. This is such a blessing.”
On average, HEU improvements are valued at nearly $8,000 per home, which saves homeowners more than $500 per year. HEU upgrades may include weatherization, air sealing, high-efficiency heat pumps and air conditioners, duct replacement/repairs, ENERGY STAR windows, insulation, high-efficiency lighting, heat pump water heaters, ENERGY STAR appliances, and/or whole-house ventilation.
“It is such a privilege to be a partner with NES and the City of Nashville to bring Home Energy Uplift to community members like Ms. Truett,” said Cindy Herron, Vice President, EnergyRight Solutions. “This program gets to the core of TVA’s mission to serve the people of the Valley to make life better, so we’re always looking for new partners to expand the program and help even more families live more comfortably in their homes.”
To date, more than 100 homes have been completed, representing an investment of more than $860,000 in energy efficiency in the Nashville area.
