One of the northbound lanes crossing State Route 153 over Thrasher Bridge at TVA’s Chickamauga Dam will be closed each day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 3, and Thursday, Oct. 4.
The lane closures are required to repair a steel road plate which helps prevent damage and wear to the concrete threshold which motorists cross as they drive onto the bridge. TVA teams recently determined damage to the protective barrier from normal traffic wear and tear.
Only the two northbound lanes across the bridge will be impacted. The inside (left) lane in the northbound direction will be closed on Wednesday and the outside (right) northbound lane closes on Thursday.
The protection angle and the work to repair it does not impact the structural integrity of the bridge. TVA will arrange for signage, traffic barrels, and personnel to be on hand both days to help direct traffic.
Both lanes are expected to be reopened for normal operation by the morning of Friday Oct. 5.
During the work period, motorists should exercise caution when crossing the dam and expect delays. TVA appreciates the public’s understanding. In the event of inclement weather, the work may be extended or rescheduled. The public will be notified of any changes in the project schedule.
