CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Tennessee Valley Authority will begin summer maintenance work on the Thrasher Bridge at Chickamauga Dam beginning on May 31. Work will continue on the weekends and is planned to be completed by July 29. TVA maintains its bridges to the highest standard and this work is a necessary part of protecting public safety and maintaining the critical infrastructure we rely on each day.
Motorists who drive on Highway 153 across Chickamauga Dam should exercise caution and expect delays each weekend from 9 p.m. on Friday to 6 a.m. on Monday. Travel should expect delays and follow all traffic signs.
The timing of the work is to help minimize disruptions to work traffic. Crews will begin with the closure of the southbound lane. Lane closures are not planned for the weekend following Independence Day. In the event of inclement weather, work may extend or reschedule the work. TVA will notify the public of any schedule changes.
Each year, TVA conducts approximately 45 bridge inspections in compliance with Federal Highway Administration to ensure the safety of TVA’s bridges.
