MURPHY, N.C. — Ongoing work to maintain spillways on the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Hiwassee Dam near Murphy, N.C., will force an extended single lane closure on the access road across the dam beginning on Monday, Oct. 16.

Traffic signals will be in place on both sides of the dam to allow safe, alternating two-way traffic on the single open line. Motorists are advised to obey all traffic signals and exercise caution when crossing the dam.

The spillway maintenance work is necessary to ensure the continued safe operation of the dam and should be complete by April 2018.
