Sequoyah Exercise Tests Coordination of TVA, Federal, State and Local Agencies
SODDY DAISY, Tenn. — Emergency responders from federal, state and local agencies will join Tennessee Valley Authority personnel in an emergency preparedness graded exercise involving the Sequoyah nuclear plant on Wednesday, September 14.
The exercise is part of an ongoing series of training drills and exercises required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to ensure an effective and coordinated response to protect the health and safety of the public in the unlikely event of an emergency at Sequoyah. A similar Sequoyah training drill was conducted on August 17.
The graded exercise on September 14 will involve hundreds of personnel working in multiple locations, including near the plant. Residents may see increased vehicle traffic and may hear on- and off-site sirens briefly activated.
Results of the exercise will be shared at a public meeting on Friday, September 16, at 11 a.m. EDT, in the Tennessee River Room on the first floor of TVA’s Missionary Ridge building, located at 1101 Market St., Chattanooga. Those wishing to attend must check in at the security desk in the Missionary Ridge building lobby and should plan on arriving at least 10 minutes prior to the start of the public meeting.
