South Holston Dam Areas Closed for Dam Inspection

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.­­ – The Tennessee Valley Authority is closing the South Holston Dam Visitor Center parking lot, North picnic area and parking lot, and top of the dam to conduct inspections from Jan. 24-27.

TVA Dam Safety will perform routine inspections and maintenance at the dam including sending divers underwater to inspect the dam. TVA has invested more than $400 million in dam safety projects since 2010, and regularly performs inspections and maintenance to all 49 TVA dams to ensure their safety and reliability.

South Holston Dam, located in Bristol, Tenn., began operations in 1950. It has one generating unit that produces 41 megawatts. In addition to generating power for the Tennessee Valley, South Holston Dam also provides flood storage, aquatic ecology and recreation opportunities.
