KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Valley Authority recognized the importance of small and diverse businesses to its mission of service at the 7th Annual TVA Supplier Diversity Outreach Summit in Knoxville on April 16.

In the past five years, TVA has increased its annual spend with diverse suppliers by 65 percent from $269 million to $445 million. TVA’s total Valley business spend in fiscal year 2018 was more than $2 billion. Full supplier diversity performance details are available on TVA’s web site.

“Utilizing small, diverse and Valley businesses creates a positive economic impact in our local communities where these companies operate and create jobs,” says Rebecca Tolene, vice president TVA Supply Chain & Enterprise Improvement. “In providing us with quality products and services at competitive prices, they play an important role in helping TVA deliver on its mission of service to the people of the Valley.”

TVA’s Supplier Diversity Summit provided more than 100 local, small and diverse business representatives a day of learning and networking while offering opportunities to share information about their unique capabilities and offerings. Participants gained insights into TVA’s contracting process and how to prepare competitive proposals.

At the event, two suppliers were recognized for their outstanding contributions. Engineered Solutions, Inc. of Athens, Alabama, received TVA’s Diverse Supplier of the Year award, and Phillips & Jordan of Knoxville, Tennessee, was recognized as TVA’s Prime Supplier of the Year. In addition, TVA Senior Contracts Manager Jeri Rector was recognized with the 2019 Supplier Diversity Champion award.
