TVA Celebrates 350 Homes Weatherized in Memphis

Nov 12, 2019

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tennessee Valley Authority is celebrating 350 homes in Memphis weatherized at no cost to homeowners. In partnership with MLGW, the City of Memphis and the Metropolitan Interfaith Association, this income-based program helps lessen qualifying homeowners’ energy burden by making a variety of upgrades, such as HVAC repairs, duct work, air sealing, insulation, window and door sealing and more.

TVA invites interested media to attend the Memphis Home Weatherization Milestone Celebration to be held Thursday, Nov. 14, at 1:30 p.m. CST at the home of Erica Warren, the 350th homeowner to receive these upgrades. The address is 761 Metcalf Place, Memphis, TN 38104.

“It feels like a warm blanket has been laid over my home,” Warren says. “I can really tell a difference.”

The event will begin with a home walkthrough for media members, followed by a series of speakers including TVA President and CEO Jeff Lyash, MLGW President and CEO J. T. Young, Memphis City Council Vice Chairwoman Patrice Robinson, City of Memphis Housing and Community Development Director Paul Young, and program participants Ester Patrick and Erica Warren. Speakers will be available for media interviews.

“We’re pleased to support programs like Home Uplift across the Valley while helping people feel safe and comfortable in their homes,” adds TVA President and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Lyash. “TVA is proud to be part of the team that reduces our neighbors’ energy bills and lifts up our community as a whole.”

In December 2018, TVA invested $1 million for the TVA Home Uplift pilot program in Memphis with approximately $8,000 spent on each home for weatherization improvements. Qualified homeowners on the City of Memphis Weatherization Assistance Program waitlist were selected to receive home upgrades.

The primary objective of the partnership and program is making a difference for Memphis families, including non-energy impacts like improved health benefits that come from weatherization measures.
