TVA Crews Install New High Voltage Transmission Lines in Oxford

Nov 1, 2016

OXFORD, Miss. – The Tennessee Valley Authority will use helicopters to install wires on new high-voltage transmission towers in Oxford this Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 3-5. The wires will connect the Oxford Substation, located at the intersection of Old Taylor Road and Belk Boulevard, to transmission lines on County Road 300.

While road closures are not expected, TVA urges motorists to be mindful of utility crews on the ground as well as any traffic congestion. Law enforcement will be in the area to ensure safety during work hours, which are scheduled from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The wires are part of a project to replace older wooden poles with taller steel towers that support both TVA and Oxford Electric Department lines to deliver a reliable power electric supply to the area.

In the event of bad weather, the work may be extended or rescheduled.
