TVA Finalizes Location for Borrow Area at Gallatin Fossil Plant
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. The Tennessee Valley Authority is finalizing plans to use TVA property for soil and other fill material needed at the Gallatin Fossil Plant in Sumner County, Tennessee.
TVA studied potential environmental impacts of developing a site for borrow material about 1.5 miles northwest of the plant. The borrow material is needed to support operation and maintenance activities at Gallatin, including minor erosion repair, site grading, and drainage improvements. The material may also be used as needed for potential future ash impoundment closure projects.
The location of the borrow site, on approximately 198 acres of TVA-owned land, will minimize the use of public roadways to transport material, thus reducing air and noise emissions, potential truck traffic, and other associated safety risks and disruptions to the public.
Details are included in a final Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact posted at www.tva.com/nepa.
