Already a national leader in carbon reductions, TVA has reduced carbon emissions 58% from a 2005 baseline. Today, 55% of TVA’s generation comes from carbon-free sources – nuclear, hydro-power, and solar. However, we recognize there is more to do and TVA’s unique position to lead in delivering solutions that will deliver a carbon-free energy future.
Our clean energy strategy honors the founding mission of innovation in energy, environmental stewardship, and economic development. In CY23, 55% of our power came from carbon-free sources, including nuclear, hydro, and other renewables. TVA is driving towards a goal of up to 10,000 megawatts of solar supplying the system by 2035. We have 4,000 megawatts of solar in commercial operation or in development today.
TVA is focused on delivering the energy needed to grow the Tennessee Valley region. That energy must be affordable, reliable, resilient, and clean. TVA is pursuing a clean energy strategy that maintains affordability, adds needed capacity to the grid, and supports energy security.
