TVA Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Battery Energy Storage System
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Valley Authority is asking for public input on the proposed Battery Energy Storage System project near Vonore in Monroe County. A Draft Environmental Assessment is available for review and comment at www.tva.com/nepa.
TVA is building the grid of the future, and the BESS would allow TVA to evaluate how battery storage can be integrated into the electric grid. The proposed BESS could generate 20 megawatts with a storage capacity of 40 megawatt hours. TVA is also proposing to build a new Vonore 161-kilovolt substation to improve power reliability in the region.
Comments must be received by November 17, 2021, to Brooke Davis, National Environmental Policy Act Compliance Specialist, Tennessee Valley Authority, 1101 Market Street, Chattanooga, TN 37402; online at www.tva.com/nepa; or by email to [email protected]. Due to COVID-19, TVA recommends submitting comments electronically for their timely review and consideration.
