TVA Supplier Diversity Summit Aims to Grow Valley Businesses
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Tennessee Valley Authority recognized small and diverse businesses for their importance to the utility at their Supplier Diversity Summit on June 7, 2016 in Memphis, including two suppliers highlighted for their outstanding contributions over the past year.
Nashville-based Zycron Inc. received the Diverse Supplier of the Year award and Alstom Power Inc. was recognized with the TVA Prime Supplier of the Year award.
TVA’s Supplier Diversity Summit provided more than 80 local small and diverse businesses a day of learning and networking opportunities while providing opportunities to share their unique capabilities and offerings. Among other topics, participants learned the basics of contracting with TVA and how to best prepare competitive proposals.
“You bring a variety of thought, background and experience,” TVA Supply Chain vice president Laura Green told participants during the day’s opening remarks. “You have a strong drive to succeed, and the innovative edge and agility to make it happen. Your success directly benefits the individual communities in which you live, which in turn strengthens the whole Tennessee Valley.”
In fiscal year 2015, TVA spent more than $945 million with small businesses and nearly $380 million with diverse businesses – those owned by women, veterans, service-disabled veterans, people of color, and those located in historically underutilized business zones. Approximately 77 percent of the businesses TVA partnered with during FY2015 have a Tennessee Valley presence.
Additional information for businesses interested in partnering with TVA can be found on a special supplier portal at http://supplier.tva.gov.
