TVA to Hold Open House on Proposed Transmission Project in Madison County
Huntsville, Ala. – The Tennessee Valley Authority is asking for public input on proposed transmission system improvements to provide power for the growing load and increased power reliability in the Redstone Arsenal and Huntsville areas of Madison County.
TVA proposes to invest about $8 million to build a new power line connection from the existing Guntersville-Farley 161-kV Transmission Line to the southeast edge of the Redstone Arsenal property to serve their new substation. The new line would be less than 5 miles and built using primarily single-pole, steel structures on new 100-foot-wide right of way.
TVA is committed to working with area stakeholders and encourages public input. The public is encouraged to attend an open house any time between 3 and 7 p.m., CDT (local time), on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the Redstone Gateway Conference Center (Rocket City Tavern), 2100 Rideout Road SW (AL SR 255, outside Gate 9), Huntsville, AL 35808. Detailed maps showing the different locations being considered for the proposed transmission line will be available. TVA staff will answer questions, discuss concerns, and receive comments. More information, including maps and the project schedule, is available on TVA.com. For those unable to attend the open house on March 21, TVA is also providing a virtual open house through April 22, 2024.
The public may also submit comments by contacting TVA’s Gina Howard toll-free at 800-362-4355, by email at [email protected] or by mail to: Gina Howard, Tennessee Valley Authority, 1101 Market Street, MR 4G, Chattanooga, TN, 37402-2801. The deadline for comments is April 22, 2024.
TVA reports the region’s population growth is six times higher than the national rate. To prepare for growth, TVA is investing $2.8 billion in transmission system improvements across its service area through 2027 and working to build the energy grid of the future that will continue to provide reliable, affordable, resilient, and clean energy.
