Water Traffic Caution for Fleet Harbor and Boat Ramp
MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. — The Tennessee Valley Authority is issuing a water traffic caution for transmission structure and line work across Fleet Harbor, located south of Wilson Dam. This work on the Wilson-Wheeler 161 kilovolt line is part of several projects to upgrade TVA’s transmission system to ensure continued delivery of 99.999 percent reliable power.
The Fleet Harbor boat ramp and parking lot will close Tuesday night, April 17, to prepare for work on Wednesday, April 18. Wilson Dam Road crossing the dam will also remain closed through this work, as will sections of Wilson Dam Road in the vicinity of the Wilson Substation. Work should be completed by Wednesday afternoon. Helicopters will be used as transmission workers replace lines crossing into Fleet Harbor.
Watercraft operators should avoid the area or take extra precautions. Everyone in the area should heed warnings of the safety patrol boats and personnel that will be on patrol in the area. Marine channels 13, 16 and 81 will be monitored by the safety boats.
As the largest public power utility in the nation, TVA reinvests back into the power grid to improve reliability and lower energy costs. Investing in the transmission system ensures reliability while lowering effective wholesale electric rates, which are now 2 percent below 2013 levels.
