Watts Bar Nuclear Emergency Exercise for TVA, Federal, State and Local Agencies
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Emergency responders from federal, state and local agencies will join Tennessee Valley Authority personnel in an emergency preparedness exercise involving the Watts Bar nuclear plant on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
The exercise is part of an ongoing series of training drills and exercises required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to ensure an effective and coordinated response to protect the health and safety of the public in the unlikely event of an emergency at Watts Bar.
The exercise will involve hundreds of personnel working in multiple locations, including near the plant and at the Joint Information Center located in TVA’s Chattanooga Office Complex. Residents may see increased vehicle traffic in the local area and hear on- and off-site sirens briefly activated during the drill.
Results of the exercise will be shared at a public meeting at 11 a.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 8, at the meeting room in the Fairfield Inn and Suites, 106 Burkett L. Witt Blvd., Athens, Tennessee.
