Water Safety

Playing on the water is a lot of fun but remember to play it safe on the water.

Water has a lot of dangers:

Boating or Jet Skiing

  • Wear a personal flotation device
  • Watch for large boats – they may not see swimmers or smaller boats on the water
  • Take a boating education course

Dam Dangers

Dams can release a lot of water very quickly. That water can create swift currents and deep water. The current can pull boats and swimmers back to the dangerous waters. While TVA shares generation schedules with the public, those schedules can change without notice. Pay attention to all posted signs and emergency notifications:

  • Horns
  • Strobe Lights
  • Warning Signs
  • Electronic Spillway Signs

Keep it Clean

TVA’s waterways and lands are beautiful! Do your part to keep them that way.

  • Make sure trash is thrown away in a trash container.
  • Pick up litter you find.
  • Clean your fish at home or at a cleaning station.
  • Use onshore restrooms.
