Caring for the Environment
From its early days, TVA has worked to protect the environment.
It’s part of TVA’s mission to use the resources of the region to help the people. That includes the natural resources! There are also laws that require TVA to carefully consider how projects can impact the environment. That can include impacts to water, air or land. It also includes how projects impact people, plants and animals.

Clean water is important to people and the fish and plants that live in the water.

The Tennessee River watershed covers parts of seven states. All that land can impact water quality in the river.

Scientists keep a close eye on lakes and rivers to make sure they’re healthy!

TVA cares for 293,000 acres of public land. TVA helps protect the land from erosion and other dangers.

TVA’s land is home to thousands of plants and animals. Some need extra protection to survive.

TVA’s archeologists help protect the history and culture of the region. They also work closely with Native American tribes.
