Matthew (Matt) Rasmussen
Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer
Matt Rasmussen, senior vice president and chief nuclear officer, leads TVA’s robust nuclear organization, and is responsible for oversight of seven reactors at three nuclear sites: Watts Bar, Sequoyah and Browns Ferry, which together generate enough carbon-free power for more than 4.5 million Tennessee Valley homes and businesses. TVA operates the third-largest nuclear fleet in the nation.
Matt’s focus is on elevating the performance of an already strong TVA nuclear fleet to the highest levels of excellence in order to deliver on the promise of the public power model.
Rasmussen has more than 20 years of experience in nuclear operations, including leadership roles in engineering, maintenance, work management, and operations at both boiling water reactor facilities (BWR) and pressurized water reactor (PWR) facilities.
Matt started his TVA career at Browns Ferry in 2002 and served in maintenance, operations and work management. Matt transitioned to Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, where he led the Maintenance organization prior to being promoted to the Plant Manager and then Site Vice President in 2019.
Matt returned to Browns Ferry as the Site Vice President in October 2020. Matt then moved to the Nuclear Fleet Center as the Vice President, Engineering and Operations Support in August 2022, before being promoted to Chief Nuclear Officer in October 2025.
Rasmussen obtained his Senior Reactor Operator License and is a graduate of TVA’s Advanced Leadership Program and INPO’s Senior Nuclear Plant Management Program and Senior Nuclear Executive Program. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University in Alabama.
Rasmussen is passionate about community engagement and giving back to the people of the Tennessee Valley. He currently serves on the board of the Chattanooga Aquarium.
