Allen Clare 

Senior Vice President, Generation

Allen Clare serves as the senior vice president of Generation at Tennessee Valley Authority. He is responsible for the safe and reliable operations of TVA’s fleet of natural gas, hydropower and coal-fired generating assets, providing almost 25,000 megawatts of generating capacity to meet the needs of the Tennessee Valley region. This includes engineering, operations and maintenance of 236 generating units, as well as asset management, river management and dam safety programs.

Prior to his current role, Clare served as vice president of River and Resource Stewardship, a business unit responsible for managing the Tennessee River, public lands, dam safety and TVA police and emergency management. Additionally, Clare has served in vice president roles leading the Coal and Gas Operations, Hydro Generation and Plant Integration teams since joining TVA in 2016.

Clare brings more than 34 years of experience in the utility industry and has held various leadership roles at Duke Energy, Progress Energy and Dynegy, including responsibilities for generating stations in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and North Carolina. Clare is a veteran of the United States Navy, where he was a gas turbine electrical engineer.

Clare is an active leader, supporting employee engagements and community involvement. He serves as the executive sponsor for the Veteran’s Association employee resource group and American Association of Blacks in Energy East Tennessee chapter. Recently, Clare was named the executive sponsor for TVA’s Code of Excellence, a union-led partnership between TVA and craft unions focused on safety, professionalism, accountability, relationships and quality. Clare previously served on the board for Chattanooga Chambliss Center for Children and as board Chair of the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga.

Clare holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and mechanical engineering and a Master of Business Administration degree. He and his wife, Desiree, have two sons and reside in Ooltewah, Tennessee.
