Johnsonville Combustion Turbine Plant

Johnsonville Combustion Turbine Plant is situated on 720 acres in New Johnsonville, Tenn. The plant is adjacent to the Tennessee River and Kentucky Lake.

Johnsonville features 13 combustion turbines that can power more than 414,000 homes.

TVA is currently adding 500 megawatts of peaking aeroderivative combustion turbines, similar to a jet engine, at Johnsonville by summer 2025.

The first 16 units were constructed in 1974 and originally belonged to the Johnsonville Fossil Plant. The units operated on distillate fuel until 1999, when a natural gas pipeline was constructed to supply natural gas to the plant. After the construction of the pipeline, the units were converted to dual-fuel operation. Units 17 to 20 were constructed in 2000.

Before Johnsonville Fossil Plant retired in 2017, TVA entered discussions with Chemours to continue providing steam to their plant, which resulted in the construction of the Johnsonville Cogeneration Plant. It went into commercial operation on January 1, 2018.

The Johnsonville Water Treatment Plant, built in 1994, was retained to provide demineralized water to the Johnsonville Cogeneration Plant.
