Technology Innovations
TVA is ready to meet future demand for cleaner, leaner power with innovative technologies that will help us generate electricity in ways that are cleaner and leaner than ever before.
Innovation has always on TVA’s blueprint—a part of the agency’s mission as set forth by the TVA Act, and an important element of its vision of becoming a leader in the generation of affordable, cleaner electricity.
TVA has identified five key technologies for special emphasis. These are:
- Small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs)
- Grid modernization
- New approaches to energy utilization and conservation
- Solar power
- Electric transportation
In addition, TVA’s research activities consider issues critical to a cleaner energy economy, including air and water quality; clean energy and integration; and long-term operations of generating assets. To that end, we are keeping our focus is squarely on the future, and what we can do to make it brighter and better.
Many of TVA’s research efforts are done in partnership and collaboration with partners such as the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the U.S. Department of Energy, national laboratories, federal agencies, academic institutions, the Center for Energy Advancements through Technological Innovation (CEATI), the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and other research consortiums.
TVA also serves as a technology advisor for TVA’s local power companies and directly served customers.
