TVA’s Fiber Network Is Expanding

TVA has been using optical fiber in its transmission system since the late 1980's; however, the utility industry has changed. 

New sources of generation are popping up across the Tennessee Valley, our power plants and substations include ever-evolving technology and the need for real-time data sharing is more important now than ever before.  

Having a robust fiber network that supports communications between generating plants, substations and office facilities in a secure way is critical to maintaining a reliable, resilient power grid.

As TVA expands its fiber network for operational purposes, it opens a door to new opportunities for economic development.  

TVA will have limited surplus fibers available for use by our local power companies or the myriad of different industries that use fiber in today's economy.
