Sicklefin Redhorse Conservation Activities

Georgia and North Carolina

In September 2016, TVA completed an environmental assessment (EA) and issued a finding of no significant impact (FONSI) for activities to support the conservation of the sicklefin redhorse in the Hiwassee and Little Tennessee River basins in Georgia and North Carolina. TVA proposes to partner with other federal, state and local entities to implement a Candidate Conservation Agreement in order to promote the recovery of the fish species. Under the agreement, TVA would participate in sampling, collection, and stocking activities and would provide financial contributions to support fish hatchery production of sicklefin redhorse and other species management activities under the direction of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. These activities support and are consistent with TVA’s mission of environmental stewardship and the objectives for biological resource management in the TVA Natural Resources Plan.
