TVA Solar Photovoltaic Projects

Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia

TVA is considering increasing the amount of renewable energy in its energy portfolio by constructing and operating solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and/or purchasing electricity from solar facilities to be constructed within TVA’s 170-county power service area. The power service area includes portions of Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Power from these solar facilities would typically be delivered by direct connection to TVA’s transmission system or via interconnections with local power companies that distribute power from TVA. Potential locations for solar facilities include existing buildings, previously developed sites of 20 acres or less in size, and undeveloped sites of 10 acres or less in public or private ownership within the TVA power service area.

TVA has prepared a programmatic environmental assessment (PEA) to document the potential environmental effects of implementing this initiative. A draft of the PEA was issued for public review and comment in June, 2014. On September 30, 2014, TVA issued the final PEA and finding of no significant impact (FONSI). Comments received on the draft PEA and responses to those comments were incorporated as Appendix A to the PEA.

The final PEA, FONSI, and the appendices, which include the comments and responses, are available through the links below. Printed and CD copies may also be requested at the addresses below.
