Chattanooga Office Complex Renovation, Demolition, and/or Sale Environmental Assessment

Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) completed a final Environmental Assessment (EA) and issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) on June 26, 2024 for the proposed renovation, demolition, and/or sale of the agency’s downtown Chattanooga Office Complex (COC) in Hamilton County, Tennessee. The purpose of the proposed action is to align TVA’s downtown Chattanooga office footprint with its current and projected future space needs. Consistent with its mission and strategic priorities, the proposed action alternatives would address TVA’s changed business needs, improve efficiency, reduce expenses, improve employee recruitment and retention, and offer potential opportunities for economic development.

TVA evaluated four alternatives for the disposal of the COC: A) taking no action; B) demolish buildings and dispose of the land; C) dispose of the buildings and land; and D) partial retention and renovation. The project area for the proposed action covers approximately 9.3 acres in the Chattanooga Central Business Zone (C-3).

TVA has carefully reviewed all the substantiative comments received during the draft EA public commenting period. Comments were summarized and included in Appendix C of the final EA. Although the final EA and FONSI have been published, TVA has not decided on its preferred alternative. Currently, TVA is evaluating which alternative will be selected, but has not provided a decision date.
