Florence-Iron City 161-kV Transmission Line
Lauderdale County, Alabama and Wayne and Lawrence Counties, Tennessee
On March 11, 2025, TVA issued a Finding of No Significant Impact and Environmental Assessment (EA) for its Florence-Iron City 161-kV Transmission Line project.
The Florence-Iron City 161-kV Transmission Line Project consists of the construction and operation of a new 13.3-mile transmission line connecting Florence Utilities’ existing Florence 161-kilovolt Substation in Lauderdale County, Alabama to TVA’s proposed Iron City 161-kilovolt Switching Station in Lawrence County, Tennessee. The proposed project is needed to improve the reliability of TVA’s existing transmission system in the Florence area. The proposed transmission line would utilize about 161 acres of existing TVA right-of-way utilizing primarily steel, single-pole and H-frame structures. TVA would purchase a 45.6-acre site, of which, about 8.7 acres would be used for the proposed switching station. A draft EA was available for public and agency comment from February 3, 2025, through February 14, 2025.
