Jugfork Solar Project

TVA is conducting an environmental impact statement (EIS) to evaluate the potential environmental effects of entering into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Competitive Power Ventures (CPV), who proposes to develop, fund, construct, own, operate, and maintain Jugfork Solar, a new 200 MW AC solar and 20 MW BESS plant on approximately 1,000 acres of the nearly 1,700 acre Project Study Area in Union and Lee Counties in northeast Mississippi and convey the energy and associated environmental attributes to TVA. The project will also include the upgrade of 6.4 miles of the Tupelo to Union 161-kV transmission line.

In addition to the No Action Alternative, TVA will evaluate the Action Alternative of purchasing power from the proposed Jugfork Solar Project.

Customer demand for cleaner energy prompted TVA to release the 2022 Carbon-Free Request for Proposal (RFP) for renewable energy resources. The Jugfork Solar PPA resulted from this RFP, which will help TVA meet immediate needs for additional renewable generating capacity in response to customer demands and fulfill the renewable energy goals established by TVA’s 2019 IRP. The Proposed Action would provide cost-effective renewable energy consistent with the IRP and TVA goals.

TVA is seeking comments on the scope of the environmental review and environmental issues that should be addressed in the document.

TVA will consider all comments received in the draft EIS.
