Jugfork Solar Project
Lee and Union Counties, Mississippi
April 2025
The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is preparing a final environmental impact statement (EIS) which evaluates the potential environmental effects of constructing, operating, and maintaining a proposed 200-megawatt solar facility north of Tupelo, MS between Albany and Guntown, MS. The Solar Facility would be constructed and operated by CPV Jugfork Solar, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Competitive Power Ventures (CPV). In addition to the No Action Alternative, TVA is evaluating the Action Alternative of purchasing power from the proposed Jugfork Solar Project.
The proposed solar development would occupy approximately 1,500 acres of the 2,195-acre Project Study Area. The required 6.4 miles of transmission line upgrade between the Project Site and Union Substation will be further evaluated within the draft EIS.
Customer demand for cleaner energy prompted TVA to release a request for proposal (RFP) for new carbon-free energy, known as the 2022 Carbon-Free RFP. The Jugfork Solar PPA resulting from this RFP will help TVA meet immediate needs for additional generating capacity in accordance with the energy goals established in TVA’s 2019 IRP.
Public Involvement
September 2024 – TVA published a Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare an environmental impact statement. The public scoping period closed on October 7, 2024. TVA received comments from one federal agency and 32 private individuals which will be considered in the draft EIS and are available in Appendix B of the Jugfork Solar Scoping Report.
TVA will also consider all comments received on the draft EIS, which is currently scheduled for release in December of 2025.
