Managing Mammal Damage in Mississippi

On July 23, 2026, TVA issued a finding of no significant impact (FONSI) for managing mammal damage in Mississippi on TVA properties and facilities. TVA is adopting the Mammal Damage Management in Mississippi Environmental Assessment (EA) prepared by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Wildlife Services program (WS).

APHIS-WS is the lead federal agency responsible for managing conflicts between people and wildlife, and WS assists in managing wildlife damage or threats of damage. TVA was a cooperating agency in the preparation of the EA because the WS program collaborates with TVA on the management of nuisance animal species on TVA properties and facilities.

Under the Proposed Action, WS proposed to continue the current integrated methods approach to managing damage caused by mammals. The WS program consists of implementing an integrated damage management approach to resolve and prevent mammal damage and to reduce threats to human safety. WS would continue to respond to requests for assistance with, at a minimum, technical assistance, or when funding is available, operational damage management.
