Saulpaw Mill Dam Removal

McMinn County, Tennessee

Updated August 18, 2025

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has completed the Final Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Saulpaw Mill Dam (Saulpaw Dam) Removal project in McMinn County, Tennessee. In the EA, TVA evaluated two alternatives for the disposition of the Saulpaw Dam, including taking no action and removing the dam. The Saulpaw Dam is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and TVA consulted with the Tennessee State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and all Tribes with an interest in McMinn County. TVA has determined that removal of the dam would not result in significant environmental impacts; however, based on budget prioritizations, TVA is not taking any action at this time to remove the dam.
