Tellico Reservoir - Bat Creek Peninsula -Change in Land Use Designation to Allow Residential Development

On March 7, 1994, Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) issued a final environmental assessment (EA) and finding of no significant impact (FONSI) for its proposal to change the land use designation from industrial to residential on a 1,060-acre parcel on the Bat Creek peninsula, located between Bat Creek and the Little Tennessee River at river mile 12.5 to 16.1.

TVA has prepared this EA on the proposed action and it serves to document TVA's consideration of the potential environmental impacts associated with the proposed change in land use designation. Because the proposed action to change the designation would lead to residential development of the peninsula, the proposed residential development has also been evaluated for its potential environmental effects. Potential effects to the shoreline properties below the 820-foot contour due to residential development such as the effects of permitting private water-use facilities were also addressed.

Public Involvement

A public workshop was held in Vonore, Tennessee, on June 22,1993, to familiarize the public with the proposed action by TVA, the proposed residential project, and to obtain public input on issues and concerns associated with the proposal. Additionally, a public meeting was held on January 22,1994, at the Tellico West Industrial Properties near Vonore to solicit public comments on the draft environmental assessment.
