TVA Announces Route for Proposed Transmission Project in Pontotoc County

TUPELO, Miss.  ­— The Tennessee Valley Authority announced today that it has identified the location for a new transmission line in Pontotoc County that would support growth and increase power reliability. The proposed line will begin at TVA’s Wellspring – McGregors Chapel 161-kV transmission line north of Veterans Highway in central Pontotoc County and extend northeast for approximately 2.5 miles to provide power to Pontotoc Electric Power Association’s proposed Beulah Grove 161-kV substation.

The location for the proposed transmission line was selected based on previously acquired transmission system right-of-way (ROW) easement.

TVA is revisiting this project after initially proposing this line in 2010 and acquiring the necessary 100-foot transmission line right-of-way easement in 2012.

Property owners along the proposed transmission line route will be notified by letter that TVA personnel will be accessing the transmission system ROW easement for survey and construction activities.

TVA is expected to begin surveys in the fall of 2025. Construction is scheduled to begin the fall of 2026 and be completed in summer 2027.  A map of the project and additional information are available on the TVA website at tva.com/transmissionprojects.

Since October of 2024, TVA transmission crews have built 95 miles of transmission line and fiber throughout the Valley and installed or replaced protection, monitoring, and isolation assets at 47 locations. Additionally, crews built four new delivery points for customer expansion and load growth, including new substations in Blue Ridge, Ga., and Artesia, Miss.
